7 year old with symptoms, normal bloodwork!!??

I have a 7 year old daughter who is suffering with many symptoms and no diagnosis. The issue affectionately referred to by doctors as "it" started when she was 3. On Thanksgiving she had Strep Throat, and on Christmas Eve she presented with two swollen, very painful ankles. Since then she has experienced recurrent unexplained fevers, a rash typically on the back of her legs, and lots of pain- migrating from ankles to shoulders to hips to knees, legs, arms, and neck. The episodes started as once every two months or so, but since October of this year have become everyday occurrences. In October she developed severe neck pain and could not move it. Since then she has had her tonsils out, but has had some sort of infection every couple of weeks- from stomach virus to sinus infection, to severe ear infection. She seems to catch everything easily. She also, since October, has begun to complain with severe stomach pain, almost daily headaches, daily leg pain, and chest pain. She is also very easily fatigued. She has had bloodwork done numerous times with nothing out of place but her LDH. She has seen two Rheumatologist and is currently seeing an Infectious Disease Specialist. No one seems to know the answers, however, at every appointment, each doctor has casually mentioned Leukemia. They state that it can sometimes take a while to present itself. How long?? She has many of the symptoms, but she has been dealing with this for quite some time with no abnormal bloodwork. I would love to know if there's anyone who's experienced the same type thing! Help!!??

Four years of puzzling symptoms? That doesn't sound like leukemia to me. I've heard of some kids who didn't have a conclusive blood test right away, but that's really a long time.

My son had one puzzling symptom and he was hospitalized and diagnosed with leukemia so fast it'd make your head spin.

I hope you find an answer soon (and that it is easily treated).

I agree.  Four years is a long time to have symptoms.  My son was sick for four months before he was diagnosed, which is a long time in the world of pediatric leukemia.

Re: 7 year old with symptoms, normal bloodwork!!??

My daughter had ALL and she went from healthy child to critical condition within 3 months. Started treatment within hours of dx. I do know of one patient who was first diagnosed with I believe  rheumatoid arthritis and treated for that for nearly a year before the ALL diagnosis. 4 years is a very long time for a childhood leukemia to go undiagnosed.

This must be so frustrating for you. If there was a diagnosis of something then at least you would know how to go forward. I have CLL/SLL and that can be a long time before dx but it is more of an adult cancer.

Please update with anything new.
