Went to visit my transplant doctor today and he filled me in on my situation about my CML with the t315i mutation.
He can't find a donor but he has found double cords which he said where 5/6 typing but I don't know if that's is good?
he doesn't mind the cord because of my age 49, hight which is 1.36 meters and weight 71 kilo's.
He has told me that he has to get on top of this as soon as possible 5th January.
I will have a few follow up's before hand and hope this all goes in the right direction.
I was going to go to the Hutch but because of all of the factor's as in it is going into winter, the plane trip from Australia, the h1n1 flu, coming back with no immune system etc, I thought I better off staying put.
Welcome mic. I had a double cord transplant with 4/6 matched cords, so 5/6 is quite good. I wasn't aware they did many cord blood transplants in Australia, as we have had many members here from down under and what I recall is that it was a rare option. If you have the means to be treated at the Hutch, I would consider it regardless of the season and H1N1 concerns. Patients in the US travel thousands of miles to go there for a reason. They are top-notch and have lots of experience in cord blood. Good luck to you, and if you have more questions, fire away.
Thanks guys
The only thing I know is that the transplant doctor here was trained at The Hutch 14 years ago hoping that is his experence.
It is hard to find stats as you all know we are not a big country and don't have many case of BMT are performed.
I have to take into consideration the after care which I think is important.
Mic, sounds like you are in very good hands! The Hutch is well-respected, but it sounds like your doc will be kind of an extension of that facility. And you do have to take into consideration being close to home---we all would probably sacrifice "convenience" for getting the best quality care, but it's not mere convenience we're talking about here, it's having a familiar support system close by that you have to consider, too. That can be very important in getting well. Keep us posted, we'll help get you through this!

I was going to come to the US to have this done but I was told that the hospital in Sydney Australia is a credtied place.
I can only hope I have made the right decision.
I was told if all goes well I'll only be in hospital for 4/6 weeks but thats a bit of a worry.
Hey Mic,
Just wanted to wish you the best of luck with your upcoming transplant. It sounds like you have a good match and an experienced doctor with ties to great resources should he need to confer with other experts about your care. I hope you can use this next six weeks to really take great care of yourself so you'll be in the best possible shape to take this on. Keep us posted, okay?
