My husband is in the Sons of the AMerican Legion. Every 5th saturday they have a fish fry. Tonight he ate fish and drank a few beers.
He said the fish didnt tast right and the beer didnt either. He had taken his vitamin and Gleevec the night before ..He alwys takes it after supper.
Tonight he had not taken it yet. He took it after he ate the fish and drank the beer. Are there certain foods that bother people who are on Gleevec or that you cant eat or shouldn;t eat. He is better to eat small meals more frequently. He used to eat one large meal a day but he cant do that anymore. He gets too full.
We are new at this so any words of wisdom are most appreciated.

I'm not sure when your husband was diagnosed, but I can tell you that the first 2-3 months I was on Gleevec, NOTHING tasted right. After awhile, I guess my body adjusted, because by the time I switched to Sprycel a few months ago, things seemed to be back to normal as far as my taste was concerned. Best of luck!

I have been on Gleevic for almost 2 yrs. I find that not only does food not taste right but some things do not smell right. Everything smells really strong too. Some things that I don't even want to smell I can smell now too!!!! Gleevic also leaves a bad taste in my mouth after I take it. It lasts for a couple hours & nothing gets rid of it. I am hungry but I can't seem to think of anything that sounds good to eat. Then when I fix something and start eating it, sometimes the food just turns my stomach between the taste and the smell. Everyone else says it tastes just fine. I have just certain foods like chicken & steak that I spice up just right and it always seems to taste pretty good. Gleevic changes your tastes for things. So it's like starting over again finding the things that you like & taste good to you. Eating the small meals are a lot better than eating 1 or 2 big meals. Seems like when you eat a large meal you feel real bloated and sick to your stomach afterwards. Then you don't feel like eating anything for the rest of the day. I take Gas-X after I eat if I feel bloated and that seems to help quite a bit. I really don't know of any foods that you are not supposed to eat when you are on Gleevic-just don't eat any that make you sick to your stomach everytime you eat them or the ones that really seem to bother you everytime you eat them. I know that ice cream really seems to bother me all of a sudden. I hope things get better for your husband. Certain side effects from the Gleevic did get better as time went on for me-taste was not one of them. I seem to have lost my appetite along with it. I lost 50 lbs. right off the bat but have leveled out on the weight loss. I am really trying not to lose another lb. It's difficult when things don't sound or taste good & you have to kind of make yourself eat! He's not alone! GOOD LUCK! I will be praying that things get better for him. jill![]()
