I JUST TURNED AROUND AND DID IT BACKWARDS. THE TRIP WAS LONG BUT WROTH IT. I LOVED THE MOOSE PEOPLE IN PURPLE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROADS AND THE BIG COACH WITH THE BIGGER RED HAT. HE WAS ALWAYS THERE WITH A SMILE. I WAS RUNNING WITH A BEAR HAT AND A COW BELL TRYING TO NOT GET EATEN BY A REAL BEAR.![]()
;-)
THANK EVERYONE FOR MAKING THE RACE ANOTHER SEA OF PURPLE!
LOVE YA ! YOUR CRAZY FRIEND KEN
Hi Ken, I was there but I did the half and I know what you mean about that last hill. It must be some sort of Alaskan humor to throw that one in at the end! I read that even the record breaker in the marathon walked that last hill. What a great trip it was. I only wish I could have stayed longer, I left Sunday night and got in Monday mid-day. I would say that Virginia had the most enthusiastic group of mentors, coaches etc. Before the half began while it was raining Virginia team was booty shaking to some music in the parking lot (half marathoners waited outside - no warm gym for us!). We only had a few people from our South Carolina team as most went to San Diego a few weeks before - they have no idea what they missed. 50 degrees and rainy is perfect weather for running and no I am not being sarcastic! I will do this again.

Thanks Mary
It was fun and I will do it again! ![]()
The coach with the Big Hat , smile and heart was from Michigan. What he does not know is how much the team up north means to me. They help keep my sister alive for two years over what the doctors gave her. On the 18th of June 2006 she passed away at the University of Michigan Hospital. Ten hours before she passed she laugh and ask me to run another Marathon for her; I promised and I have not been able to stop since.
The Michigan Team gave me that chance to see her laugh just one more time and I will never stop loving them for that!

Hi Ken,
I actually ran the half marathon this year. I left on June 18th which is also my birthday, maybe your sister was watching over the race!
Mary
Alaska was the first full marathon (or any race for that matter) I had ever run. Sounds like my experience was the same as yours! 50 degrees, rainy and cool. Overcast day. Just amazing!
How about that Tank Trail!!??
