I take Gleevec, used to love spicy food, I have to stay away from it for the most part now or I get a stomach ache. Spicy peppers seem to be the worst (Jalapeno, Habanero, Chili, etc) oddly though, Cayenne pepper is not a problem for me at all.
The drugs are hard on the stomach, I am not at all surprised if he had that type of reaction. Over time he will learn what he has to avoid.
I'm on Tasigna; I like spicy foods and used to have no trouble with them. Now anything too spicy or acidy can give me pretty bad acid reflux. It's bad enough that I'll have a burp with acid in it, and these issues also give me heart PVCs, which aren't a big deal but are still annoying.
I also generally belch more, but it's frustrating because they kind of rise up in my stomach but don't come out, so I have to bend certain ways to burp and get comfortable.
Thanks guys - for my Dad it just seems to be the spicy food - feel your pain hannibellemo, on the no alcohol; everyone should be allowed a good glass of wine.
I know it just makes my Dad feel better knowing he is not the only one or that the "spicy salsa" making him sick wasn't a figment of his imagination. Now if I could just get him to poke around on this site himself, he could ease his troubled mind, or reach out when he was feeling anxious or had a question. I know, at least with my Dad, having cancer just takes SO much from you and dealing with everything can make him feel like he is going a little bit crazy - having the ability to talk and share information with other people who are going through the same or similar thing really helps SO much.
