hi, I have been getting phlebotomy for two years on an average of every 6 weeks.(600ml). My wbc has always been right in the middle with everything else high. Today my blood has plummeted at every level and with 45% iron and very low ferritin (can't remember exact number) My Hematologist is perplexed. the drop over a month is dramatic to me seeing my wbc at 4.5 (4.1 bottom) hgb 13(12 bottom) hct 38(36 bottom) and plt not as drastic a drop at 341. anyone here experienced this ? also my blood pressure was best in some years without taking my cozaar this morning. any advice or direction would be appreciated
p.s. i know these numbers are still in normal range..but a big drop for me in three weeks time
Was this the first time your numbers had dropped? I don't really worry when my numbers plunge (or increase) one time. There could be so many variables involved. For example, had you consumed more liquids than usual? (That would make your labs go down a bit.) Was it the same lab? The same technician? Did the blood sit around the lab for a while before it was run? Etc., etc., etc. If you're really concerned, I would ask your doc to do another cbc in a week, and take a look. If it becomes a downward trend, and the drop is consistent, then further testing is probably a good idea.
Do you have polycythemia vera? Where do you live? Come join our discussions on "PART 4, LIVING WITH PV, ET, MPD'S." There'll almost always be someone around (except on weekends).
yes this is the first time for a drop. and always same doc with onsight lab no new lab techs. yes Polycythemia vera, i live in sherwood arkansas just outside little rock. they are johny on the spot in their lab , they have to be...high volume of patients. thank you for your response pegetha, i will come over there. I just am worried about lukemia or the bone marrow scarring.
