I have a 2 yr old DX with ALL in Oct. 2010, last night a faceboook friend posted that her 1 yr old had a blood test that showed abnormal cells.
She called me this morning and said they told her there was a myleocyte or metamyleocyte floating around but the WBC count was within normal range. She has noticed pea sized lymphnodes on the back of his neck and head. He has also had very slow weight gain. she said she hasn't noticed any bruising and he is a very healthy boy. he had a fever a few weeks ago she thought was due to teething.
his platelets were 754000!!
I am so scared for her and I barely know her, she is across the country from me and I wish I could just give her a hug and make it all go away.
These symptoms sound so much like my sons that it is bringing back memories of Evan's DX and I am just crying and praying that her son does not have cancer. The only difference is I don't remmeber them telling me anything about myelocytes.
The key point is normal WBC, so not leukemia. Infant blood counts can vary widely without being a serious issue, but that does not mean it should be ignored. The current issue is high platelets which should be pursued. The myelocyte/metamyelocyte issue, unless severe, is not a big deal by itself. You can read about platelet issues:
