World Cancer Day is the perfect time to take action and declare that creating a world without blood cancers is not beyond us.
Wednesday, Feb. 4 will be World Cancer Day – and for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society that also means the launch of recruitment for the fall Light The Night Walks. The day’s theme “Not Beyond Us” is all about highlighting the ongoing fight against cancer. So much can be done at an individual, community and governmental level to stimulate positive change, and by moving forward together, we can show that solutions do exist, and they are within our reach.
According to worldcancerday.org, the global cancer epidemic is huge and set to only rise. Currently, 8.2 million people die from cancer worldwide every year, out of which, four million people die prematurely (aged 30 to 69 years). Disparities between people from different settings are growing, particularly in access to prevention, treatment and palliative care.
Participating in a Light The Night Walk brings together families and communities to honor blood cancer survivors, as well as those lost to the diseases, and shine a light on the importance of finding cures and providing access to treatments for blood cancer patients. It’s a way to take a stand while raising funds to advance therapies and treatments.
Recruit your friends and family, register for a Light The Night Walk near you and make an impact today.
