Todd's count's are coming up pretty quickly.I did not want to post because for some reason I'm scared about jinxing him....if anyone can understand. His wbc is 2.4 up from 1.7 yesterday. His platlet's and rbc's are coming up pretty fast also.However...when I looked at his blood work I seen next to blasts-3.Scared me.Now I'm just learning the rope's around here but that was in his peripheral blood.I'm am praying that those blast cells are a result of marrow regeneration and the adult(healthy) cells pushing them out as they try to get into the blood stream. Please can someone clarify this for me??The Doc is talking of discharging him if the marrow is clean.Has anyone had any knowledge of something like this??
Hey there Rebecca/Pinky,
That's good those counts are coming up.
My understanding is that "blasts" may not necessarily be leukemia blasts, they may just be immature blood cells showing up in the peripheral blood. And that sorta makes sense to me - the bone marrow has been razed to the ground and may not be spitting out the best blood cells we've ever seen at the moment while it's trying to recover, so a couple of immature cells may have slipped into the blood stream. The term "blast" can simply mean a precursor of a blood cell, or an immature, undifferentiated cell.
Hope this all translates into a big "whew" moment for you...I know how you feel about not wanting to jinx anything, this disease can make a person pretty gunshy. Hang in there.

"Whew"....WBF. His doc keep's asking him is he ready to get outta of the hospital. Now I'm having anxiety.Separation anxiety from the hospitals and the Doc's.Go figure. The Doc had his blood drawn again this afternoon, and he seems anxious to do a bmb on Todd. His count's are only 2.4 today and I think he said 1,000 he wants them to be at.I want to say the Doctor told him he was taking a look at those cells. We never heard anything back.Im still praying Todd can have some Turkey....![]()
You do feel that separation anxiety, I felt that bigtime when my treatment was over, and I no longer had a 'next step' to go to. I totally understand that feeling! WBF had some good advice, that's how I've always understood blasts, too. I hope you hear more from the doctor today----and ask him anything, no matter how seemingly small. If you don't understand something, the fear that creates can be huge, so ask---there are no stupid questions with this disease, and so much to learn. I'll keep Todd in my prayers, keep us posted.
Pam
About the only thing I can add is that they expect counts to jump up almost exponentially once they take hold and start producing well. So the jumps in counts are actually a really good thing.
To add to what Pam was saying about asking questions, keep asking until you understand. We have a tendency to ask once and then pretend we understand even if we don't. Remember the doc works for you and it's his/her job to educate as well as treat.

Hello all.Yesterday those peripherals jumped up to 6.They pulled blood from his pick Line to do a differential.Today, they are back down to 3(blast).And his count's are up to 3.1.They are going to do a bmb first thing in the morning. The Doc said the way his counts are rising is showing remission.Anyway said that's what his gut is telling him.He also said that he hopes those blast are from marrow regeneration only.Alice was going to do a bmb today but I guess she cancelled it for some reason or another. They are talking about sending him home tommorrow, and our house is a total wreck.I haven't done any cleaning but the basic's of the house since he has been gone, and me and the baby have been traveling from one side of town to the next.He look's great!Even gained 7 lbs(from the ensure 3x a day) so he is up to 172.Hope for more positive new's on Friday.
You had any friends offer to do "whatever?" Now's a good time to take 'em up on it. The house could use a little disinfecting before he gets home. Clorox or lysol wipes can do most of it for you. Be sure to have some anti-bacterial wipes and/or hand purifier.
It's not as much as it sounds like, but you do want to get the germs away even if he's beyond neutropenia. Just a safety precaution.
I hope he gets sprung. But never count on a discharge until the car's left the parking lot. It's kind of crushing to some folks when the discharge is cancelled for some stupid reason.
Hope the BMB goes well. Let us know what you find out.

Well I managed to get my house cleaned in just under 4 hour's
.I had alot of accumlated junk and dust, so It got the once over with Lysol and Clorox. They Sprung him today at exactly 1:30P.All went well.He is eating take out right now his count's are up to 5.2.They did the bmb this am.I'm hoping all goes well with the results.I can't see them letting him come home and then turning around and admitting him for another induction.I sure as hell hope not.We won't have the prelim's until tommorrow. If he doe's have to go back,I'm going to pull my hair out.Really.I want to take him to Cleveland Clinic as it is two hours away from are house, but I'm kinda afraid of moving him in the middle of treatment. We will have a visiting nurse here 2x a week for his picc line and blood work, so that save's me on gas.God Bless you all.And I will keep you all updated soon.
Woo hoo!!! Free of the pole! Uninterrupted sleep! Awesome news, congrats. There's no place like home...
My fingers and toes are crossed for a great BMB result.
- WBF
Don't worry over much about him having to go back. With those counts it sounds like he's doing great.
But if you have to, shave your head. Don't pull your hair out. That's gotta hurt.
Let us know how the BMB comes out.
Blessings
Well they never called to give us the prelim's so I just figured no news is good news.We go back on the 30th of this month. He is resting and eating up a storm(still pumping him with ensure's).He isn't thrilled about consolidation rounds but he does not have a choice. No fever's good appetite his energy is sub-par,but after two rounds of chemo I guess I can expect that.He still has a clot near his neck where the old picc line was, so I'm giving him 7.5 mg of Arixtra everyday, and flushing his picc.On top of taking care of our daughter.I'm spread pretty thin but I'm adjusting.Just glad to have him home for a little while.
I'm with you, no news is good news. If they found he wasn't in remission, I'd be willing to bet they would have called you immediately. Sounds good to me. The rest of the report sounds pretty good, too.
I don't remember you mentioning the clot before. I do miss some things sometimes.
Have a good weekend and let us know what's up.
Blessings
He had the swelling around his neck with the first picc. They pulled it and put it in his left arm. Then they put it on the right side of his neck. It's been an achilles heel for him since he started Chemo. They did the bmb on thurs so I guess they would of had the prelim's back yesterday afternoon. They won't know anything for sure until Mon- or Tues and I hope NOT to hear from them.He is getting blood draws at the house cbc/diff/and sodium Iron and mag level's checked twice a week for now.
Todd is in Remisson!!!!!!!!!![]()
Awesome news Pinky and Todd!! ![]()
