3 or 4 consolidation treatments?

I have looked everywhere for info on this but it looks like everything just says 2 to 4 consolidations is the recommended treatment.  Nothing with stats that says 4 is better that 3,etc. I think it depends of course on how everyone does on the cheemo as to whether they would do less but can't help wonder if like the 4 would be better that 3?  I think my doc's standard is just the 3 cause that's all I had, that's all he ever said I needed and I didn't want to ask him any different for I didn't want it to sound like I'm asking for more!! lol Hoping the 3 will be enough to stomp out all those scragglers!

Re: 3 or 4 consolidation treatments?

I had four, but I remember my local oncologist, and the transplant center's doctor (where i went for a second opinion) both saying "3 or 4". I think some of it depends on how well you are handling the rounds so far. In my case, I did well with the chemo. Although round 3 was the toughest to recover from---I needed a lot of bags of platelets. But then round 4 was a relative breeze!

My hope is 3 is plenty to stomp 'em all out----and that they stay out!

I think 3 is not unusual if you do well with chemo. My dad got into remission quickly with induction, then had 2 consolidations.

Re: 3 or 4 consolidation treatments?

Hi Karen, I had 3 consolidations. At first doctors were not sure how many I will need, but I responded well to treatment and went "easily" into remission during the induction. They also found chromosomal abnormality that put me into low risk category, so they decided that three would be enough. But they couldn't say that before I was starting my third consolidation! Then they told me that this will be last (I had asked many times believe me). Odd but my last consolidation were easiest to me and I recovered quite quickly and had only one feverish day. Hope that three will bee enough to you too! Hugs!

Re: 3 or 4 consolidation treatments?

Hi Karen,

Well, look on the bright side - by now you know all the ins and outs of being in the hospital - I felt like a professional patient by the time I was done!  There are plenty of things it helps to be "hospital savvy" about, and you probably know them all by now...

I had four consolidations, but if your doc thinks three is gonna do it for you, I certainly wouldn't argue with him/her - being an expert is why they get the big bucks, don't cha know.

Good luck and hope this round goes smoothly.  Just think how happy you'll be when you get to go home this time and know you don't have to go back!
