I have noticed recently that Jakob is very sensitive to people touching him. Yesterday he had an echocardio exam done and he was crying and moaning. He is 12 so its not fear or trying to get sympathy. The exam is just an ultrasound of your heart, no pain involved. Wondering if anyone else has noticed this with their kids? I am going to mention this next week at our clinic appt.
Thanks,
Nana
Yes! I have noticed this with Andrew as well. He is 10, and will have his last treatment in DI today. We've even had a few episodes where he has what he describes as "tingly" all over -- like when your foot falls to sleep, but everywhere and very intense. It comes on suddenly, and really stops him in his tracks, crying, etc. (which is not like him at all). Even wearing clothes bothers him... last night he couldn't get to sleep because his underwear were "burning" him (his words). He tried on 4 different pairs to no avail and finally took another bath which seemed to help. I mentioned the issue to our nurse when we were there for platelets on Monday, and she hadn't heard of it but said she would look into it. I'm going to ask the Onc today. If they don't have any answers, I'm going to call his neurologist on Monday -- seems to me like this is nerve-related, or maybe a reaction to continual use of Neurontin -- Andrew has epilepsy, too, so he takes additional meds in that family of drugs and I thought that might be part of the issue.
I'm so glad you posted this question, I thought we were the only ones!

Yes, Kaeden is.
Justin had some sensitivity only during DI. The nurse at our clinic mentioned that this happens to a lot of kids.
Emma's not, but it reminds me of when I have a fever and my skin just feels weird and I don't like to be touched. I bet the Vincristine does something to their nerves that causes them to feel that way. Could be the steroids too.
But no, my problem is getting the little monkey OFF of me. LOL
Elias is not, however I have a friend who has MS and is frequently on steroid treatment. She says she is sensitive on steroids and coming off, her skin hurts to breathe. She said very warm/hot bath helps the most.
I spoke to our onc about this yesterday... he said he's seen it in a few kids and it is just a different way nerve pain can present itself. Andrew has severe bouts with nerve pain anyway, so I guess it has just escalated to this as well. The doc is looking into increasing Andrew's Gabepentin/Neurontin dosage if it continues to be a problem, but we need to check with neurology first to see how/if that would impact his other anti-seizure meds. Thanks for the info everyone!
