We were in on Wednesday for our regular clinic visit, including vincristine and started our 5 day steroid pulse. Both Micah and Seth have had higher ANC's than they normally do. Micah's was only 1700 or so, but Seth's was over 3,000 for the second month in a row. So they uped the boys' mtx by two extra tabs each Wednesday evening. Has anyone else had this happen in their treatments schedules? I didn't know an ANC of 1600 was really that high, but I guess it is higher than they like it to be. Earlier this summer in July, they both had a really high ANC at one point (like 6,000 or 9,000). At the beginning of 2009, they were both switched from bactrim 3 days a week, to once daily dapsone. They were switched because they had both struggled with low ANC all the time. We would be at 50% or 75% a good portion of the time. Now, 100% doesn't seem to be doing it's job, so that has me a bit concerned. Just wondering if any of you have had this going on.... We have been in LTM since Feb. 2008, and have about 1 year left of LTM.
Hi....yes this month as a matter of fact. My son was also around 3,000 so they increased his methotrexate by an additional 4 tabs a week. We go to clinic tomorrow and will see if that worked to bring his numbers back down. He has been all over the map with dosages since he started with maintenance a year ago. He started out at high doses then they lowered them.... now they are going back up. The doc was not concerned....just said this is just part of treatment....managing those numbers and getting the dosage where they want it. Take Care.
Elias' ANC ran high toward the begining of LTM. It took a while to find the magic combo. The first thing the Onc did was to test somethings r/t the 6mP. I cannot recall the name, but there were two tests. One looked at genetic makeup and the other looked for his ability to metabolize the 6mp. Both came back fine. This meant, the MTX was the low one. Elias has been on 150% of MTX through most of his treatment.
