Re: 3 yrs OT with the h1n1 virus....

Marlene - I have to correct you.  There was more than one boy - Yes, there was a 13 year old boy last weekend from a hockey team that contracted the H1N1 flu and died, but there was also a 10 year old girl a few days before that succumbed to this virus.  About a month or two ago, there was a child under that was rushed to the hospital in the Toronto area that had passed out from a fever and died.  She was otherwise healthy and tested positive for the H1N1 virus and that was confirmed.  That is more than "ONE" child that you posted.  That is "children" like I mentioned - I know they are a few out of a huge population, but the scary thing that people have to remember is that these were PREVIOUSLY HEALTHY CHILDREN WITH NO PRIOR MEDICAL HISTORY - meaning, you don't know if your child WILL get it or HOW they will react to it - so why wouldn't you vaccinate to prevent this uncertainty?  Please read the news stories before you assume that I making false statments!

A local high school boy in our area died of H1N1 last weekend.  Was in school on Friday, seemingly fine, and died Saturday, with convulsions from the H1N1 flu.

Re: 3 yrs OT with the h1n1 virus....

Okay Marlene.  I'm sensing your sarcasim with me.  I'm just trying to state the facts.  Three children dying of cancer out of four million is three too many.  Why isn't three out of 4 million dying of the flu?  One is too many in my eyes.   I don't know why you are carrying this tone with me - maybe you don't like my opinions.  I don't agree with many opinions on here either, but I don't feel I'm being rude to anyone.  If so, I apologize.  We are all parents of kids with cancer, sharing our views and opinions.  I made a point to correct your statement that you made falsely about me and then you reply with that remark.  I'm sorry you feel you have to be that way.

Re: 3 yrs OT with the h1n1 virus....

Hero4 - I am not interested in fighting with you.  This should be a place where we can come to find support, not grief.
I hope that everyone here makes the decision that is right for them/their families, and that things work out for the best for all of us.
I agree, 3 children dying from anything is 3 too many.  My point is that statistically, lots of things have killed 3 people in our city in the last two months, and that if you look at the numbers, H1N1 is of no greater threat than many other things that we don't even think about every day.  I hate to think of any of us living in fear and anxiety for our kids' safety, we do enough of that as it is.  Do we need to have that compounded by fear and anxiety over H1N1?

My intentions were never to fight...like I said "we're all in this together", state your opinions, but don't shoot down others in the process.  Everyone gets a say/opinion - its up to us to take that how we want to and do what's best to keep our kids safe and protect them as best we can.
