I just started thinking about this today, as we are going "Trunk-R-Treating" tonight. Here is a link I found:

Isn't vinigar a natural disinfectant? I believe that it is, that sounds like a good route. I really don't want to go at all. I haven't been able to figure out how to get out of it yet. They might be happy w/ a party, but that probably isn't much better. Tonight is Trick-or-Treat at the nursing home, No Way in H E Double hockey sticks am I bringing the kids. There is usually a line down the street. I wasn't able to convince them to wear a BioHazard suite as a costume. Or astronaut.
My son will be staying home and passing out candy dressed as a Dr. complete with mask, gloves and white coat. He is older though,10, and didn't want to go TorT plus the weather is terrible here. I don't know about disinfecting candy but maybe you can open it with gloves and put it is a dish so they wont have to touch the wrapper that everyone else has touched.
Personally, just go buy candy and stuff it in their bag or basket. I dont think they care where it came from as long as they get some.
Interestingly enough.....the clinic cancelled their annual "trick or treat" day. I asked why....they said H1N1.
