Hi there,
I am very glad your test results came back normal and more importantly I am glad you have some peace with it. Paige's counts wall all in normal range her wbc was slightly elevated 13k the first test 15k the next test 10 days later and then 26k when we finally figured it out.
I will tell you one thing I know is certain. You know your child better than anyone - the doctors, the web, ect. Follow your motherly instincts and you will always be right. The web will drive you nuts trying to find an answer - the doctors have to go with what you tell them so be certain you are giving all the details no matter how miner they may seem. But follow your heart, pray and listen to the answers to your prayers.
God bless you!
Thankyou, again.
My son is stil sick right now, but we also found out that my neice, who he has been exposed to, just tested positive for H1N1 flu, so I'm guessing that's what we're dealing with right now. I was hopeful that we'd have him back at school next week, but the way things are going, it doesn't look like it.
Were Paige's other blood counts normal? Platelets and Hemoglobin?
My son's WBCs were initially 5 or 6, I think, but his lymphocytes were really low. Three weeks later his WBCs are 12, and the lymphocyte percentage has gone up (don't know the exact numbers, our dr. doesn't give copies of labs, these are just the numbers I can get out of him over the phone.) His platelets and hemoglobin continue to hover in the lower normal range.
I do feel better now that nothing dramatic has shown up in his labs, but I'm still frustruated that he's been feeling bad for so long now (7 weeks!) How long did your daughter have symptoms before you figured out what was going on? You say she had bone pain, did it come and go or was it constant?
Thanks again. I will pray for your little Paige. How is she doing? How old is she?
Hi. I read your post about low ALC. Have the doctors test your son's IgG levels. My son had low ALC from the time he was diagnosed with T-cell ALL. The doctors think he had low IgG levels from birth. The Low ALC is an indication of this. I didn't read though all the replys so I'm not sure what other Moms and Dads are saying. This is not a routine blood test ordered, so most pediatricians won't thiink to do this test, but you can google it and find out about it. If you want, please email me and I can give you more info about his. frasiercon@aol.com Connie
Hi there -
Sorry it has been a few days since I have signed on.
Paige is doing well - she is in remission or Long term maintenance now and we are blessed that God will take her through this without a relaps. As for her initial numbers - they were good the first go around - nothing abnormal - her WBS were 11 I believe (10 being normal I think) - so much has happened since then. Everything else was the same and was fine.
The second blood tests were at 13 I believe - still nothing out of the ordinary. Then we went on vacation and she had the mother of all nose bleeds. Needless to say this is a sign of low platellets. The final results after the xray that displayed the massive tumor caused by the leukemia came in at 26.
The bone pain came and went - never anything constant. Still does when the bone marrow is recovering.
As for the duration - Paige got sick on Sept 5 for the first time with an ear infection - within 5-7 days developed abnormal lymphnodes in her neck that I kept going back for and was officially diagnosed on Oct 2, 2008.
The great thing about this was once we figured it out we were cancer free within 8 days (now offically the cancer free test comes at day 30 when they do a specialized test)
Keep the faith - Prayer is the answer. Have everyone in your family, church send his name up in prayer and they will be answered.

Has your son gotten any better? I'm asking because his symptoms sound very similar to my 4 1/2 year old daughter's symptoms. We too live in Wisconsin which I noticed in one of your posts. Anyway, my daughter has had a low grade fever (average of 100) for the last 3 1/2 weeks. She complains about pain in the legs, stomach, arms, neck, and forehead. She mostly complains about the leg pain. She also missed a lot of school as a result of this problem. We've been to the doctor 3 times so far. They have done blood work which they said came back "normal". I didn't get many of the specifics for the blood counts, other than her CRP is slightly elevated. She has been tested for Lyme disease, strep, bladder infection. They did a chest x-ray, which also came back normal. I'm just trying to figure out what could be causing this fever to hang on so long. Should I just wait for it to go away on it's own? Do you really think your son had the swine flu?
Thanks for your help.
Hi! Sorry, I just saw this response in my email.
Yes, my son did get better. We did not ever figure out what was going on. His fever lasted for 7 weeks (on and off, mostly on though) and then went away. He finally went to his first full week of school for this entire school year so far! So, hopefully your daughter has something similar that really will resolve itself. My son's leg pains were so intense that at times he literally could not walk. Now he's fine. One thing that the ped offered was a sort of acute arthritis thing that resloved itself. (Not sure how probable that it, but it sounded like a possibility.)
I've decided to just be thankful he's better and be done with it. Right now we have yet another nasty cold/flu thing going through our house and he is the only one who actually doesn't have it! (yet.)
Anyways. I hope that your daughter feels all better soon and that whatever is going on with her is nothing serious and resloves itself.
