Does anyone know if Hodgkin's patients - IN REMISSION - are considered any more at risk for complications from H1N1 than the general population? Are you getting the vaccine when it is available? Take Good Care - Bev ![]()
I think if your counts are normal now, that you are not at any greater risk, as far as they know right now. The only patterns I have heard of in terms of bad outcomes with H1N1, have been pregnant mothers, asthma sufferers, and anyone with a weakend immune system.
Reese is also a type-1 diabetic in addition to being a Hodgkin's survivor (1 year remission now), and he IS considered high risk for H1N1 because of his diabetes, not because of his Hodgkin's history. Either way, I do not like H1N1, and though I am very cautious about vaccines, Reese will be getting the H1N1 vac. at the orders of both his Onc. and Endocrinologist.
Hi Bev-
Since I am not in remission, I don't have an answer to your question. I have been worrying a lot about this virus and have spoken to my oncology team several times. They told me that it is OK to get the vacine as long as my counts are up. They also do not seem in the least bit worried if I were to catch the virus. Their positions seems to be that if I were to get flu symptoms (of any kind) that they will be interceding quickly because I would be letting them know. I don't know though, because I worry about the compromised immunity part. This is a troubling and confusing state of affairs.
