a kind of embarrassing question, relating to ladies.

am i the only one having this issue?

my menstrual cycle has been crazy.

im usually on my period for 5 days.

last month i was on it for 2 weeks.

this month i've been on it for almost 3 weeks.

they put me on birth control back in July.

is this a side effect of chemo or some medication i'm taking?

They put me on birth control also to stop me from having a period but I still had bleeding. The doctors said it was from low platelets. How low are your platelets?

Many Blessings!

Hey Michelle,

Sorry you're dealing with all this...the chemo can definitely mess with your cycles, so you might run this question by your oncologist.  Low platelets can also cause bleeding, but I see you've had that checked out.  It's probably good you're on the pill for now, but since you haven't been on it very long your system may still be adjusting to it and with everything else that's being thrown at you, it's not too surprising things are messed up.  Hopefully your onc can provide you with some answers, I know my doctor has a hormone specialist working in his practice.  Just what you needed, on top of everything else, right???  You might also ask some of the experienced oncology nurses, those gals have a lot of information acquired over the years and might be easier to talk to about it.  Are you in the hospital now, or in between treatments?  I know the chemo had my thyroid numbers pretty whacked out, and I had some bleeding when my platelets were low, even though I went through an early menopause prior to being diagnosed and hadn't had a period in ages.

Michele, chemo put me into menopause, and I stayed there---but I was older, I think 49. So I was soon to be in menopause anyway.

I heard for younger women, chemo can put you into a kind of temporary menopause, but eventually your cycle will come back. But I can see where it might be crazy for a good while. WBF had a good suggestion, maybe asking female oncology nurses....hope it gets more regular!

Michel,

I did not have period for 1 year after chemo stopped and when it started it does what is wants and whenever it wants. Doc say it is normal as long as I do not loose lots of blood and can keep up m=nutrition wise.
