Has anyone developed pancreatitis while on Tasigna?

Hi,

I am new to this.

I was diagnosed in June with CML, accelerated stage. Initally started on Hydrea to attempt to reduce very high platelet count, over 4 million. Eventually changed to Gleevec. I was intolerant, developed pulmonary edema and congestive heart failure. hospitalized over two weeks. The next try was Tasigna. It has worked well . I am in hematologic remission and the plan is to take "T" for two months to reduce the marrow tumor load. After that a bone marrow bx and if okay will be scheduled for a stem cell transplant.

I really want the stem cell transplant. I am 69y/o, but otherwise fit.

The problem is that I recently developed high pancreatic enzymes and abdominal discomfort. Pancreatitis secondary to Tasigna. According to the literature, the incidence is 8%. Wouldn't you know. I have been taken off Tasigna for two days and restarted at a lower dose, only to have the pain and increased enzymes recur. Now off tasigna for three days.

I am worried that the dose, 200mg twice a day, usual is 400 mg twice a day, taken intermittantly won't help the marrow tumor load.

Has anyone had this experience? What was the outcome? Wondering about Ariad drug just read about on the discussion board.

Thanks, dmac

Re: Has anyone developed pancreatitis while on Tasigna?

Hi and welcome.

If this is a CML medication, you might want to check on the Living with CML forum.  Go back to the main menu, click on the "Living with..." link and you'll see a CML link on down the page.

Blessings
