Carefull! Private Message Scammer on this Site!

I just joined this site because my husband had a double cord blood transplant three weeks ago. Messages on the board have been so nice. Now I get the following "Private Message" that was supposedly scanned by the site. I think not. I am very upset and would like to save the rest of you from being taken in by these terrible people!!!

Be aware of this, it is very dangerous!!!

Dearest One,

I know this mail will come to you as a surprise since we have not had previous correspondence,

please bear with me. I will really like to have a good bussiness relationship with you, and I

have a special reason why I decided to contact you. I am Miss Sokona Nnam 18 years old girl from Cote d Ivoire, the only daughter of Late Mr Edward Nnam I am constrained to contact you because of the maltreatment I am receiving from my Uncles.

They planned to take away all my late father's treasury and properties from me since the unexpected death of my beloved Parents.Meanwhile I wanted to escape to anywhere i can have a good life but he hides away my international passport and other valuable travelling documents. Luckily he did not discover where I kept my fathers File which contains important documents. So I decided to run to an orphanage camp where I am presenty hiding under Reform campAbidjan Cote DIovoire where my late father deposited some amount of money in a bank. I wish to contact you personally for a long term business relationship and investment assistance in anywhere in the world.

My late father deposited the sum of US$ 5.5 million (Five million Five Hundred united state dollars) in one of the leading bank with my name as the next of kin.

However, I shall forward to you with the necessary documents on confirmation of your acceptance to assist me for the transfer of the money to your account, and investment of the fund. As you will help me in an investment, and I will like to complete my studies, as I was formerly a medical student, when the crisis started. If you are willing to help me in this kindly get back to me as soon as possible.

I am waiting for your urgent and positive response. Please do keep this only to your self please I plead you not to disclose it till I come over to your country after the transfer.I am willing to offer you 20% of the total sum as compensation of your effort and 5% for any other expence you made after a successful transfer.

please send me mail to this mail: nnamsokona7@yahoo.com

Thank you
Miss Sokona Nna

Re: Carefull! Private Message Scammer on this Site!

I received notice of a private message on my Email and hurried to the site to open my message, only to get this crap.

How sad that someone would choose this site to try and bilk people out of money.  Piranhas!

All - this has been taken care of. Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve this issue. We take spam very seriously and promptly worked to make sure this user account is unable to send out private messages again. For more information on this, as well as private messages, please visit this thread in the Comment on the Discussion Boards board.

Re: Carefull! Private Message Scammer on this Site!

Samantha,

There is a post under "Living with MPD's . . ."  The thread is "Hydroxyurea."  The questionable post is from someone called "James."  It is obvious from reading the post that this person does not know anything about the drug in question!  I'm not sure what the intent of this person might be, but if you look at the post, there is a phone number listed there to call for more information.  I'm certainly not going to call it, and I would suggest that the post be removed from the site.  It appears to me to be a person who is perhaps trying to scam someone?  Could be dangerous.

By the way, I tried "Report Abuse" on that post, but got a message that said, "Unexpected error occurred."  That frightens me . . . does this person now have access to my information?

Thanks for your help.  Replying to you here was the only way I could figure out to get through without touching that thread again.

I'll let our monitors know that you tried to report this as abuse so they can be sure to take a look at it in case they have not been able to already.

If you report something as abuse, the person who is getting reported does not know who reported them. This information is only accessible by administrators and monitors.

Additionally, this person has only access to what you have made public. Your email address is hidden as well as what you entered for your real name, so no one except for LLS Community administrators can see those things. If you are concerned about anyone seeing anything that you write, I would suggest taking care in how much information you share in your posts. The LLS Community is a public website, and as such anyone on the internet can access any published information (i.e. discussion threads and blog posts). The only things that cannot be accessed is your account information (you choose if your username or real name is visible, and by default your email address is hidden) and private messages.

Our monitors did not feel that the post you referred to is spam. If you would like to discuss this more with them you can email us at community@lls.org and we'll make sure your email gets to the appropriate staff.
