This is just a friendly reminder that we have monitors on staff who read the boards on a daily basis. Part of what they do is:
If you are unsure of how to use the LLS Community visit the Getting Started Guide or the Frequently Asked Questions page in Comment on the Discussion Boards.
Overall our goal is to make sure you have a positive and streamlined experience as you interact with your peers in the LLS Blood Cancer Discussion Boards. If you feel that something should be changed or you have a problem that you can't find an answer to, please feel free to post in the Comment on the Discussion Boards section or email us at community@lls.org. We will try to answer your question by the end of the following business day.
Hi Samantha,
As for --Move threads when it makes sense for them to be in a different board.
I've noticed that there are frequently questions posted in Tell Us Your Story, that go unanswed for few of us check that board dailhy - shouldn't they be directed by monitors to the open forum or a more appropriate thread?
Also, what do the stats on usage reveal? We're missing a fair number of previous posters and the traffic seems to be consderably lighter.
As for 'streamlined' experience, I DON"T THINK SO. Best wishes, dj

We have also noticed the threads that have been placed in the Tell Us Your Story section and just this week moved many of them to the LLS Blood Cancer Discussion Boards.
From what I have seen as far as usage goes is that we are actually seeing really strong activity - not everyone posts obviously (and this was also the case on the other software), but we have had and still have many people visiting the LLS Community since we migrated over to the new software.
If you have any specific suggestions for things that we can change to make your experience more streamlined, please let us know. If you feel something is not getting addressed soon enough as well, do let us know. Our objective here is to make this a welcoming, enjoyable and easy to use online community.

Of course we posters couldn't see the number of views on the old board but I'm amazed too look at the number of views. I think it shows a tremendous amount of people who probably never post. I put a new post out there a few weeks ago and couldn't believe how quickly it hit 100 views. It was less than 2 days. Some people probably hit it more than once but i was still impressed.

I am a newbie to this board, but not to other message boards. I am truly glad you all are here, but I do not find it user friendly. I do not find it confusing; more cumbersome really. Is there some way to know when the original thread was posted without actually reading it? I have found some threads that go on and on for months it seems, more like a chat room, really. Thus the last post really has nothing at all to do with the original thread many times. I realize that the board members are purposely doing it, but may not realize the effect it has. It is difficult to follow a thread that has numerous pages, like over 5 or so. Look at some of the topics and see just how long they are...... no newbie is gonna want to jump in the middle! It *does* take a while for newbies to feel comfortable posting, and not fear get ting slammed.
Unfortunately, I have no real solution, except to list the number of pages in each thread, and I will just avoid those that are endless. Perhaps the posters could start new threads more often, instead of continuing one that is no longer on topic? Maybe a live chat room could be started, even if only one evening a week for starters? (if there already is live chat, forgive me) I know how important it is to keep in touch with your support system, especially those who REALLY know how you feel.
Again, thank you for being here, and I do not mean to be critical, but wanted to voice my thoughts. :-)

Mags,
Since it's late on Friday, I'm not sure the admins will get back to you until Monday so I'm going to jump in here. I'm not sure if there is a way to see when the thread was started. However, when you go into a forum, there are 3 tabs at the top. The Discussions tab is the right-most and it gives you the most information about the threads. I like it because it tells you the author, the last poster, and the number or replies. To the right of the tabs is an option to set that tab as your default. That way it will always open that tab on that forum when you're logged in.
Another nice thing about that tab is that it will indicate which threads have been updated since the last time you logged in - well at least it does for the threads that you've read in the past.
While it doesn't tell you the original date of the thread or the number of pages, the number of replies gives you a bit of an indication. I believe there will be 30 replies per page (someone correct me if I'm wrong).
I understand your request for people starting new threads and I've seen some that get far away from the original topic. There are threads that are important to the patient when all information is in one place. The transplant forum is the main example of that. The people there go through a long experience and those threads tend to get very long.
Hope this helps,
Kelly
What the heck and where the heck is "Tell Us Your Story?"

It's on the main page under communities. I don't go there much but it's a page where people can post their backgrounds.
Ah.
I bypass that and come straight to the main forum menu here.

Mags - what KyGuy has said here is correct. None of these areas will show the original date of a post, but it will show the most recent activity.
We understand that this forum takes a while to get used to, and that it follows some different methods than other forum solutions out there. We are currently working on some more items for the Getting Started Guide, which should hopefully help make new users' experience more user-friendly.
Tell Us Your Story was created as a companion community to the 60 Years of Innovation site. We are currently working on the wording for this community space to make this more clear.
Samantha, I can see that a thread (to which I had responded) was moved from “Tell us your story” to “Living with HCL”. That was good of you and it has worked out for the best. But I want to know: do you alert the thread initiator to the move? I am worried that a newbie might easily get confused, possibly offended, if a thread of theirs disappears.
Mags, you’ve made some excellent points. It certainly behooves us long time posters to keep the site as friendly as possible.
Joe
I did not notify anyone of any threads that were moved, however I do know that we need to make it clear for new members how they can find their threads once they are moved. People who have had their threads moved can find them through Your Stuff then Discussions. I'm going to work on seeing if we can make this more clear.
There's an e-mail sent when a post reported as abuse is approved. I assume there's one sent when one is disapproved, too.
Can't you just send an e-mail to explan a post has been moved, where to and why?
