Hey Dawn

Just saw your post. My sister has CML. diagnosed IN 1999, ON Gleevec in late 2000. Been at zero Philadelphia Chromosome since Spring 2001. Not to shabby, we are truely the beneficiary of these heroes. Let us know how you are doing with your treatments.

Survivors, participants, supporters, doesn't really matter what category you fall into, we are all making a difference in this battle. I'm 52 years old with CML, diagnosed in February 2005, never been much of a runner, but completed the Maui marathon in September with Team in Training, Western Canada, Vancouver chapter. Made friends for life, raised lots and lots of money - okay, who says no to a guy running a marathon and raising funds to help find cures for what he's got? Best decision of my life, continue to be involved with the Team in many ways, and hope to continue raising funds and awareness for the rest of my long, long life. Been on the wonder drug Gleevec since the beginning and am now completely undetectable for leukemia, and can only hope that all our efforts collectively will result in cures for all blood cancers.

Go Team!!

Hi Barry,

Thank you for your kind note. Your sister gives me hope. I've created a web page to keep friends and family updated on my progress. Please feel free to visit at http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/dawnk.

Thanks, again, to you and all who are working so hard to fund research to find a cure.

Well done, all! I am a survivor of Hodgkin Lymphoma. In two weeks, I will be in remission for five years, a big deal for cancer survivors. I am in training for the PF changs marathon in Phoenix, walking it. It is my third marathon, all for TNT, in about three years. it is great to see all of the purple people, and the spectators, and espcially spectators with survivor signs! Congratulations, Diana - what an accomplishment to do a half marathon so soon after having a cncer diagnois. Keep well!

Thanks for the well wishes. I was getting ready for my first marathon with 2.5 years in remission and when I think how quickly the time has gone by, it just amazes me. I am so grateful to be here and to have the opportunity to make a difference. Best of luck to you! Carpe Diem! Art

Amazing! It's very inspiring particularly for me as i'm in remission from AML and may need a transplant at some point. Please help spread the word about the need for bone marrow donors...I met a number of folks in the hospital who died because they didn't have a match. I've also met a number of folks who've done the TNT but didn't know anything about the need for donors, and how easy it is to sign up at MARROW.ORG... Thanks for getting the word out. Best of luck to you

Great point! Two of our (Rchmond, VA) patient honorees were saved by bone marrow transplants when all else failed. Nicki has been in remission for nearly 11 years and has done a marathon and several halfs for TNT. Ed has been in remission for 18 years and has done about 8 or 9 events for TNT - marathons, century bike rides, and triathalons - and holds the coveted and awe-inspiring TNT triple crown! I try to include a plug for registering as a donor in at least one fund raising message. Nicki was saved when a donor who signed up for a little boy with leukemia (who sadly didn't make it) turned out to be a match for Nicki. So one never knows. Nicki and her donor became great friends and visit each other over the miles at least once a year.

I've been on the marrow registry since about 1990 when there was a drive where I was living. It is so important. I also was a blood donor - more than I gave 80 pints in my life. Little did I know that my last donation (unless the rules change some day) was to be about a month or so before learning I had lymphoma. When I reflect on having had cancer, the only sadness I feel is that I can no longer give the gift of blood to maybe save someone's life. If I were a marrow match, I wonder if they would use it anyway since I might be that person's only hope.

Hi Gang! I just joined today. I was diagnosed with CML in March of 2001. Gleevec was approved in July of 2001 and the rest, as they say, is history. The Philadelphia Chromosome is totally gone from my DNA for about 3 or so years now. I've done the full and half marathons at Nike for TNT, just finished the PF Chang half in January and am scheduled to do the OKC Memorial Marathon, Nike Marathon and Dublin Marathon before this year is out. My husband is doing the Tahoe bike ride this June and I will probably do the shortest leg of that one. I'm a mentor like many of you others and think that having us on the team makes it "real" for many who could lose their motivation if we weren't there. I wouldn't be here without TNT, so I'll be on the Team until the body quits or we cure blood cancers. Thanks to everyone for what you do!

I met several survivors who were on Gleevac when I did the Mayor's Marathon in Alaska. Every time I think that I don't want to keep training, I just remember how much difference a year has made & how weak I was when i was going through chemo. Then I think about all the folks who are still going through treatment or just being diagnosed & it definitely keeps me going.

Cancer is a lousy lousy disease & sometimes it's hard to grasp the concept that not everyone has as good an outcome as I have had. We just lost one hell of a Cancer Warrior a few days ago. Joan Gray was a very special woman who fought a long battle with lymphoma with grace ,humor & compassion. She always had a kind word for everyone on the LLS bulletin board and she will be sorely missed.
