Why does this happen?

One reason (there are others I'm sure) that I came across recently is hemolytic anemia, which can be a side effect of treatment. But i think there would be other symptoms like low Hgb

& high bilirubin. We were just tested for that because my son needed 3 transfusions in the last 3 weeks (he is 2.5 years into treatment). To test they did a Coombs

Test, reticulacyte test and bilirubin. Spleen issues are a symptom/complication of hemolytic anemia.
