A shout out to all blood cancer warriors who have participated in TNT. I started training for a TNT event this past January when I was 2 months out of chemo for non-Hodgkin lymphoma. I completed the 13.1 mile half marathon in Anchorage AK on June 23rd, the exact 1-year anniversary of my cancer diagnosis. It was a great experience and I'm so grateful that I was strong enough to cross the finish line (and not be the last one either) and so happy to have raised almost $7,000 for the LLS this year between TNT and Light the Night. I met a lot of wonderful people walking and running in honor of loved ones but I'm especially glad to see how many survivors are able to participate. It gives me great hope that we will be able to conquer blood cancers and reinforces my belief that once you have "done" cancer, you can do ANYTHING you set your mind to.

Celebrating 1 year in remission this month & looking forward to my next TNT event...

Good stuff!

Had a little tiff with NHL myself in 1994-95. I "came out" in 2004 by doing the Lake Tahoe Century and done it 3 times now total. Looking forward to doing triathlons next year.

BTW, they should have the option for special shirts for survivor TNT participants on event day. What do you think?

Way to go to everyone who has survived, participants or not. There's a reason why we are here and able to physically and mentally (and crazy enough to) achieve these events, but not without everyone's love and support.

In 1981 (I was 16 months old) I was diagnosed with AML with two brain tumors, chemo and radiation and almost a bone marrow transplant later....I'm here today! This is my reason to give back. I praise God and thankfully the clinical trials I was on got me back to good health. Thankfully, I can't remember everything being so little but I remember plenty to make me teary-eyed and grateful to be here today and continue the mission.

Disney will be my 3rd event and I'm honored to be a mentor for the 2nd time. I will continue to carry the "torch" and fundraise and train (it keeps me in shape and disciplined). Congrats to everyone who is doing events and carrying on the torch!

I started riding about a year after my first diagnosis with AML in 2003. My first century was the Solvang Century in 2005. I was a mentor for Tuscon 2005 also. During the Tuscon training program, I went over 2 years from my Stem Cell Transplant and was declared cured. It was great celebrating that with the team. Unfortunately, I relapsed in 2006 while I was training for another century ride. My second Stem Cell Transplant was very difficult, but I started training for the 2007 Honolulu Century ride a couple of weeks after I got out of the hospital. I rode my trainer .7 miles over 10 minutes. I almost passed out. The Honolulu Century program was an important part of my recovery from the second transplant. I rode the century less than a year after the transplant. I had lots of problems with all the walking I had to do in the airports and through the city to get ready for the ride, so I have decided to train for the 2008 Rock and Roll 1/2 Marathon in San DIego so that I get better at walking. As soon as my doctor approves, I will start thinking about doing a TRI to get my Triple Crown.

I think special Jerseys would be a lot of fun.

Congratulations to all of us who have continued to live in the midst of the diagnosis. I was diagnosed with CLL in December 2006. I completed a half-marathon in April 2007 and one for TNT October 21. I was slower than I was in April, but I am still happy that I was able to finish. I will serve as a mentor for April 12, 2007 half-marathon. I like the idea of Survivor T-shirts for participants! That would be motivation for us as well as motivation for our teammates and other non-TNT people competing the race.

Hey, LLS-- what do you think? Can we have Survivor T-shirts?

Hey All:

Survivor of NHL for almost 16 years. I have done 3 marathons and a couple of tris for TNT. There are survivor shirts available. - I have two purple singlets that have Survivior written on the back. Ask your local chapter before they get the singlets, bike shirts to have Survivor written on the front or back. They should be able to do it. Althernatively, you could do your shirt to a shop and get it pressed on.

Apparently, this must be a prerogative of the chapter because I know some chapters won't do it.

I think I was told the degree of customization of your event jerseys is directly proportional to the size of the team and the money they raise...e.g. one might have seen cycling jerseys that look totally different (and waaayyy more cool if you ask me) than the usual purple + green ones. I was told that that's because they had the financial/volume clout to have those custom made.

...but I digress...sorry..I know this thread isn't meant to be for this.

The special shirts according to funds raised may have something to do with our promises of 75% going into the mission. But I do agree that we could try to do something for survivors that participate, just not 100% sure any of my ideas work to get it done properly for a separate shirt. Maybe something that was attachable was made available, a patch or pin. Even without a special shirt you all have very special places in our hearts.

I guess from my perspective a different shirt is about coming out - it's shouting out loud and clear to the world that I am fighting this...it's about displaying to the rest of the participants how many survivors are picking up the fight and encouraging others to do the same, it's about the fact that spectators can goad on a struggling survivor towards finishing the event, it's about the society celebrating the fight and recognizing the survivors with a blood red jersey...

I agree-- I think it would be inspirational for each of us, for the other TNT participants, and for the other people in whatever race we are in. Can you imagine-- we are walking/running/cycling and someone next to us is getting tired or sore-- they see us and realize that if we can do it, so can they!

It is a testimony that we are still alive and are not going to let leukemia win-- not right now at least-- not without a healthy fight for our lives!

Hello to all TNTers out there. I'm delighted to have found you. I just joined this site about 10 minutes ago.

In Oct 2000 I road with a Philadelphia area team in the Seagull Century led by our trainer, Ed Hein. At the time, this was a monumental achievement for me, as I had never considered myself athletic. Who knew that in Sept. 2007 I would become a beneficiary of the funds we raised back then? Just 4 weeks ago I was diagnosed with CML. How could I have know that some of the lessons I learned from TNT (endurance, mental toughness, courage, faith, etc.) would come back to help me today in my own battle with leukemia?

I am inspired by all of your posts and your personal survivor achievements. It gives me hope. Thank you!!!

I've volunteered to be a patient "hero" for the Lake Tahoe event, but the real heros are those who ride for us. Then my plan is to get back in the saddle and ride another century.

I love the idea of a special jersey!! I am a 15 year non-Hodgkins survivor and have completed 12 century rides with TNT. My chapter used to recognize survivors in many ways but they have definitely gotten away from that. If the 75/25 split is the only reason for not having a special shirt or jersey, maybe we could help pay for them ourselves?
