Any Michigan folks doing the TNT 2010 Disney Marathon (full or half)?

Hello! I thought I would post and see if anyone else from my area is signed up for the Disney 2010 Marathon. I am going to the kickoff in Farmington Hills tonight. If you are going - I hope to see you there!

Also, as I am working on fundraising (50% there so far!! WOO HOO!), I have contacted 2 places about hosting events. 1. Super Bowl (Canton, MI): Hosting a Halloween Bowling Night; and 2. Jungle Java (Canton, MI): Hosting an evening w/ Santa there (50% of admission is donated; if we did Santa pics, we can keep whatever is above/beyond the materials cost).

I would LOVE to work with others on these fundraisers -- mainly to get people to attend. If you are interested, email me at theburz@yahoo.com.

Thanks!

Off and running ~

Melanie

Why did you join Team in Training?

Hi Name is Ken,

I am with the TNT Team in Melbourne FL., I work out of country allot but I love my Team and what they stand for. God bless you all!

The first year I joined Team in Training was in 2005 to raise money by running the 26.2 run (the Disney World Marathon). It was because my sister Karan called me and let me know she had Leukemia, I did not know what to do to help; I tried to become a donor but was not able to, then I learned about Team In Training (TNT) and how they raise money to help people with leukemia and the research to fined a cure, then I joined. And it was painful but with the help of the coaches I made it.

Then the second year I was not going to do it again but Karan had a fall back, so I jump on a flight back home to see her on 17 June 2006 and she ask me if I was going to do it again. I promised I would and 10 hours later she died.

She finally got to see me run with all the angels in heaven. They must have had a good laugh a 243 lb man running 26.2 miles, but I made it again this time with the help of my cusin Carla and her daughter two angels from Michagan. Again the pain I made it and we raised $3000.00 with the help allot of people giving what ever they could.

This year I found myself with a work schedule that would not let me run it, so I said (well I can’t). Then one night while I was running I was thinking about Karan and I thought I heard something, it was like god was talking to me. It said Karan is gone, But what about all the others? All the others out there with blood cancer are you going to not do something for them, what about the little kids.

So I called my manager and he told me we would work it out so I could have the time off to run for the others and that is why I am it again and again that others may live.

Goddard said: "It is difficult to say what is impossible, for the dreams of yesterday are the hopes of today, and the realities of tomorrow."

We can do this ! Thank You

TNT Cycling Team - I see very little here on them!

This forum seems to focus primarily on the Marathon folks, with some mention ot the Tri folks. I do not see any discussion of the Cycling folks? Why is that?

I did 2 events this year with TNT - this is my first year with TNT - both of them cycling. I did the America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride (AMBBR) Century around Lake Tahoe on June 3rd, and did the 109 mile El Tour De Tucson (ETDT) last weekend - November 17th.

I raised about $9K for the first ride and over $5K for the second - over $14K combined. not too bad. I was a fundraising mentor for the 2nd ride.

I think I've about tapped out my fundraising base for now, so I won't fundraise for cycling next year, but will probably ride the AMBBR in June and the ETDT in Nocember as an Alumni - self paid.

I may try a marathon or a triathlon with TNT during the Summer and fundraise for that.

Let's here it from some other cyclists! I know you can make some noise!

Any leukemia survivor marathoners out there???

Hey all,

I'm a 5 year AML (and allogenic stem cell transplant survivor) living in Canada. Last five years have been rough in many ways with my health being pretty up and down. While I did manage to run a 10K two years after my transplant, but then I got hit with major chronic fatigue issues and had to stop running. I've recently started up again, however, after seeing an endocrinologist and getting some adrenal, pituitary and other hormone/endocrine stuff addressed. I have tons more energy and am now giving serious thought to pursuing something I have dreamed about but didn't think I'd ever be able to do after having cancer/transplant - run a marathon. My dream is to join TIT and run a marathon in the next year or two... Right now I'm just running a couple times a week, 10 and 1's up to 40 minutes, and I'll be doing a 5 K in September. But I'm in good health and strongly believe I could do it with the right training... It would be my way of celebrating my survivorship and honoring the many people who don't make it through this disease.

Anyway, i would LOVE to hear from any of you who are survivors who are in training - I would be so inspired to know you're out there and that maybe I could do it too! Or if there are other survivors out there contemplating a marathon, I would love to connect with you too.

lesley
