Jamie, I am so very sorry for you and your son, there are no words for this agony. Jeff fought a valiant and brave battle. I am in awe of your strength, too, and your spirit. Please accept my deepest sympathy on the loss of Jeff, you have been so supportive of others in your time of need and I pray our thoughts with you now will bring you some much needed strength and support as you deal with this. I am truly sorry that you have to face this with your small son after such a long and brave battle. I'm relieved Jeff's last struggle was it seems peaceful and that you can rest assured that everything was done that could be done.

Thanks to those of you who followed the blog and posted for me.

In the 36 hours before his death, Jeff deterioriated to the point of no return....the multiple organ failure was just too much, and at some point early sunday morning he had a stroke (we think - I believe it also could have been the aspergillus making its way to his blood stream and brain) that left no brain activity. Later that afternoon, we turned off the vasopressor drip that was supporting his blood pressure, and he was completely gone within minutes. We all stayed with him to the end.

Michael - Why are you not using painkillers? Are things getting any better for you? Thank you for nice comment you left on my blog. I hope you are feeling a little better. Please feel free to post here as much as you want...there are lots of people who might be able to help.

To everyone else - Thank you for the continued support throughout this mess. My body and heart are aching SO badly right now, but I am also relieved that Jeff is done suffering, that we can all start to heal from 2 years of incredible stress, and that there are better days ahead for my son and me.

I am sorry. I am sick to my stomach. I hurt for him, for you and your family.

Jeff fought a long and ever changing battle. You have been by his side, well past exhaustion and you have both continued to drag yourselves from the muck to take another swing at the Beast.

Though the battle was lost, never doubt the importance and value of the fight. The two of you have inspired and strengthened those who were also running on empty. I have no doubt of that.

I wish you strength, comfort and courage for the days. weeks and years ahead.
