Need a Team Name

I decided to call my team "Team Hope" as Hope is the name I have played cards and blogged under for years. Seemed kinda fitting.

There is a facebook widget like that. You can get it from lightthenight.org. Go to lightthenight.org, sign in, then go to "fundraising toolbox" on the right hand side of the page there is a facebook widget you can add. Not sure if you've seen it already or not, but there you go

First time attending light the night

Hi mag7,

I say "go for it!!" - you won't regret it. I've participated in 2 LTN and wish they still had that in my community instead of the current dinner/auction that is done for the fund raising.

Ours was in a local park and there were hundreds there. Had local school choirs and other entertainment, food, as the groups gathered. At twilight we began the walk and seeing all the folks - some with white balloons, some with red - walking the path with a singular purpose....well it made even jaded ol' me get misty-eyed.

I captained a team both times - we were co-workers, and while we didn't raise a huge amount, it wasn't bad for just working schmucks. The most memorable exxperience was at the one when I was just a couple of months out of chemo and didn't have a whole lot of speed or strength back yet. I'd become friends with a woman I worked with and had grown quite fond of her nearly-teen daughter who has cerebral palsy. I always had candy for her when she would come in with her mom so I became known as "the candy lady' LOL

Anyway, her Mom was part of the team and the daughter was excited about walking with the Candy Lady but because of her CP worried that she wouldn't be able to keep up. She started off pretty slow....but then so was I! She was almost in tears so I lagged back even a little more and reached for her hand and told her 'that's OK sweetie. I can't walk very fast either so let's just walk together until we're tired and then we'll stop'. She got the biggest smile I'd ever seen and we held hands and made it almost 3/4 mile before we had to call it quits. Getting passed by everyone but we didn't care - it was OUR victory!!

So get a few friends together, make a team, raise whatever you can using whatever method you feel comfy with and go for it! You don't have to raise thousands....or even hundreds... every little bit helps and is going for a cause that makes a difference.
