The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Mission Education Department has created an easy-to-read brochure called Know Your NHL Subtype.
There are more than 60 subtypes of NHL, yet it's common for patients to know only that they have "non-Hodgkin lymphoma" or "lymphoma." Know Your NHL Subtype will help patients make the connection between knowing their specific NHL subtype and getting the best available treatment.
The brochure is also a tool to help patients ask their doctors questions and get an expert consultation on their diagnosis. Mission Education offers more detailed information about NHL subtypes in our booklets Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma and The Lymphoma Guide.
Christina Lee, patient services manager from the Wisconsin Chapter and Ilana Benyosef, patient services manager from the Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter, helped field test this brochure with members of their NHL support groups. As one patient-reviewer commented, "Having had lymphoma, it helps to know what you have so you can focus on learning about it and not be confused about what to do about other forms of lymphoma."
Know Your NHL Subtype was supported by a grant from Allos Therapeutics and was reviewed by John P. Leonard, M.D. of Weill Cornell Medical College, New York, NY and Lynn Rich, MS, RN of the James Wilmot Cancer Center, Rochester NY.
