93 Days to Go!

Posted by ginnym Oct 16, 2009

Well, I'm running lots more these days! I run about 15 miles a week, with my runs on Saturdays now at 7 miles or more!! I've come a long way from when I could barely manage a mile. So far, no major injuries, just some aches and pains, which makes sense for my age! Thanks to my sisters, friends, and total strangers, fundraising is going well. I will be able to meet my goal. I'm over half way there now!

Recommitment is the 27th of October. This is when I say for sure whether or not I can commit to this undertaking. Training and fundraising, while time consuming and at times a little painful, is nothing compared to what these cancer patients must endure, so of COURSE I'm committed! For all of our heroes, yours and mine.

Please help me reach my financial goal, and I'll meet my running goal.

Week Three Training

Posted by ginnym Aug 23, 2009

Well, today was cool and perfect for running. I went about 3.5 miles today, thanks to Mike's help in keeping me motivated. I haven't missed a training day yet. So fas, so good. My fundraising has kind of stalled. I'm at $800, but I need another $4,000. Long way to go! Someone helped  me out with a bucket drive option, which if I can swing it, I'll manage it since that will bring in a couple of hundred dollars. Plus I'm going after businesses now. Hopefully they'll feel generous and want to help.

So I keep fundraising and I keep running! We'll get there!

Week 2 of Training

Posted by ginnym Aug 15, 2009

Today was interesting, to say the least! We trained at Annamarie's house last week, so this was my first trip to Gallup Park. I drove back and forth in the parking lot for 15 minutes trying to find someone! Finally I did, but they were lost too. Eventually I found our team and was off and running. I went about 2 1/2 miles today, more running than walking, and felt pretty good when all was said and done. There were others there training for a full marathon in October. They ran 16 miles today! Incredible!!

On a sad note, there was an obituary in the paper this week for a little 11 year old girl who had died due to leukemia. She is one more reason to do what we're doing, to keep that from happening to one less child or adult. Please find it in your heart to give to this cause.

Thanks,  and GO TEAM.

My first Training Session!

Posted by ginnym Aug 8, 2009

Well, today was my first training session! It rained the whole way!! There was even a little lightning and thunder to complete the entertainment! It didn't matter. Annamarie and Ethan are  so great, helping me through my first time out there. I have a LONG way to go, but because of their enthusiasm and expertise, I WILL make it. And with Mike as my mentor, I will make my fundraising goals as well. Our team is running for a young boy, Neill, who is 9 years old, facing his 3rd round of this dreaded disease. Last I heard, he was in remission, and I hope it stays that way forever. With our dollars, we will find a way to make that happen.

I'll keep you posted on my progress each week. Right now, for a girl that hasn't run in 25 years, I'm starting slow, but I will pick the pace up over the next few weeks! I hope to keep track of my miles and try and tie it in to my fundraising dollars. Any ideas? Let me know!

Go Team!
