We at The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) join the rest of the world in mourning the death of Nora Ephron. Her humor and insight shone through in her essays, novels and brilliant film-making.
Ephron had been battling myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), which then progressed to acute myelogenous leukemia (AML). LLS is relentless in its pursuit of new therapies to defeat these diseases. We are funding through our Therapy Acceleration Program, a Phase III trial for a promising new drug being developed by Onconova Therapeutics Inc. The drug has shown promise in earlier stage trials. The goal of the Onconova project is to develop a treatment for MDS so the disease does not progress to AML.
You can learn more about progress in MDS treatments from this insightful discussion with Stephen D. Nimer, M.D., Attending, Leukemia Service, Vice Chair, Faculty Development, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
