We at The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) were excited to learn of our former Youth Ambassador’s next big opportunity – to star in Fame, an MTV pilot set to release on September 25, 2009.

Paul Iacono is Neil, an ambitious filmmaker looking to make it big but runs into a few challenges along the way. Paul can relate with his character’s frustrations, not only in the world of performance, but more privately as someone who has dealt with the roller coaster ride of cancer diagnosis.

At seven-years-old Paul was diagnosed with leukemia, and faced two years of chemotherapy. He says that it was a difficult time, but his continued public performances helped him to feel positive about his situation and he eventually went into remission. He recognizes that there was a possibility that he could have just become another statistic, which is why he has devoted so much of his time supporting the work of LLS.

In a recent interview it’s clear that he’s optimistic for future pediatric leukemia patients – “My theory is that eventually the survival rate will be 100% and no kid will have to go through what I had to go through.”

We wish Paul well in this new endeavor. To read the rest of his interview about Fame visit Just Jared Jr.

Super Volunteer, Pete West, of San Antonio TX, has hit the road on a around-the-country motorcycle ride to raise awareness and funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  Cruising on his 2007 Honda Goldwing GL1800, decked out in LLS insignia, West has set his goals high.  He'll be visiting cancer centers in at least 35 states, traveling 11,000+ miles in one month, aiming to raise $50,000 to fight blood cancers.

Why he's doing it?  West says, "I have never been diagnosed with cancer but I have had family members and friends that have so I want to do my part to help in my own way and that is to raise money to help doctors and scientists find a cure for cancer and find it now!"

West is riding to honor those who have fought and are fighting their own battles with blood cancers.  His inspiration to do something grand for LLS was sparked by his wife, Lisa, who is an avid member of Team In Training and has completes two 1/2 marathons to raise money for the cause.

Pete West's extraordinary journey began on May 16th.  Right now, he's leaving Pickerington, OH, where the American Motorcycle Association and the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum are located, and head north to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.  You can follow his incredible journey on his blog.  Help him on his way by donating to his campaign.
